– I’ve been writing this blog for ten or eleven months now. Over that course of time I’ve occasionally mentioned when I’ve had one of our cats laying on me while trying to write. It’s usually Dora demanding my attention.
Dora passed away unexpectedly a few days ago at the age of 12.
This is beyond sad for myself, but even more so for Susan who raised her from a baby, runt of the litter, rescue kitten who had to be fed with an eye dropper until she got stronger.
By the time my future wife moved to Rochester with Dora she was the big boss lady, and stayed that way until her last day. Here is what I dealt with anytime I tried to read, write, listen to music, or surf the web.
I can literally say that my heart is both heavier and lighter today. R.I.P Dora.
– In last week’s column I wrote about the Super Bowl halftime performance by The Weeknd, and wondered if teenagers enjoyed it. Do kids like him, or is he more popular among women in their 30’s and 40’s?
Here is most of an email I got from my sister Barb…
::: “I was reading your Record Archive blog and you were wondering what people 13-21 would want to see in a Super Bowl halftime show. So… I decided to ask my almost 13 year old daughter and 16 year old son. Here is what they said:
John — Lil Uzi Vert
Lizzie — Juice
I think I may have heard of the first one. I definitely have not heard of the second one (Juice). Then John told me that Juice is dead. Ok…
Moral of the story… polling teenagers will not help you come up with better halftime show options. Deep down I knew this because I hear the music they are playing when they are in the shower. Mom and Dad probably thought the same thing about what I used to listen to (Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, etc.).

Yes, Barb’s email made me smile and gave me a chuckle. By asking the question I wasn’t expecting a better show, but I was curious what kids would want. Now I just have to hope my niece and nephew never get to book the entertainment for the big game.

There are tons of albums I love, but very few absolutely perfect records… ones where there isn’t a single weak track. “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” by Derek and the Dominos is one of those. That’s what I have filling my ears and soothing my brain right now. Get it HERE.
