Formed at the beginning of 2014, Junkyardfieldtrip was originally put together as a songwriting vehicle for Mike Gladstone and Rob Smith. After adding one of western NY’s top rhythm sections (Emmett Ientilucci and Don Torpy), the band started playing acoustic shows around the Rochester, NY area. Eventually the band started writing and playing more electric material. Over the last few years, Junkyardfieldtrip has quickly become one of the region’s most in-demand, eclectic bands, being nominated by City Newspaper’s Best of Rochester award for best band. With outstanding musicianship, memorable original material and cool and unexpected covers and remakes, JYFT is not to be missed!
Genesee Johnny – hosts Son House Night again on the final Thursday of each month in the Backroom Lounge at Record Archive – featuring a special guest each month, beer, wine and pizza on top of the live music!!!
We’d like to thank Johnny, the Son House Club of Rochester – and the local Blues community – the opportunity to continue the fine tradition of this event honoring the great Eddie James “Son” House Jr. Son House was one of the original delta blues slide players who toured with and recorded at the same sessions with Charlie Patton and Willie Brown who influenced / taught Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and Howlin Wolf only to quit music and disappear… He was found decades later living as an unknown here in Rochester, NY. He then would go on to record and tour internationally before old age and failing health forced his retirement.
About 10 years ago, Gordon Munding started a blues jam to bring our community of musicians and blues lovers together and who better to dedicate such an event to than such a historically overlooked icon like Son House – a one time local musician himself playing coffee houses and bars in the area between tour dates. When Gordon handed Genesee Johnny off the reins 3 years ago he did everything he could to not only keep it going but to build on what he started…
